A: Fiber discs will allow for feathering the area with a soft or medium density back-up pad, at a faster pace. Flap discs are more rigid but leave a nicer finish when compared grit-to-grit to a fiber disc.

A: For relatively well-maintained lawn mower blades with minor dullness or nicks, fine grit flap discs in the range of 150 to 180 are the preferred choice. These discs provide a smoother finish and are excellent for honing the blade's edge to a razor-sharp level.

A: You'll usually see an expiry date printed on the centre ring of the disc, formatted in month and year (eg. 03/2022). Smaller or ringless discs may have the date printed on the packaging, disc label or even on the disc itself, and will be a maximum of 3 years from their manufacturing date.

A: To avoid spindle contact during grinding, monitor product wear, spindle dimensions, and grit size. Discard the product when it is 3/16 inches from the spindle diameter for 36-grit and coarser products and 1/8 inch for 46-grit and finer products.

A: The reason that cutting and grinding discs have a shelf life is that the resin that is used to bind the disc material together breaks down over time as it absorbs moisture from the atmosphere. This means that an out of date disc could break up during use, with sharp fragments being ejected at a very high speed.

A: In general, you can sharpen all kitchen knives and all qualities with the stable 20° angle, because it achieves a very good basic sharpness. But, some knives have special steel compositions and qualities that allow them to be sharpened even finer with the 15° angle.

A: adopt a comfortable stance with feet apart so you feel well-balanced, and ensure you have a clear view of the job. never use a grinder between your legs while sitting on the floor. stop at regular intervals for a short break to rest your hands and arms. never put a grinder down until the disc stops rotating.
